Wagwan, foodies!
Let’s talk about one of the most iconic dishes in Jamaican cuisine - Oxtail! Known as “Jamrock” at our restaurant. If you're looking for something hearty and full of flavor, this is the dish for you, bredrin!

But where did Oxtail come from, and when was it first made?
Oxtail has its roots in African cuisine, where it was a popular ingredient in stews and soups. When Africans were brought to the Caribbean as slaves, they brought their cooking techniques with them, including the use of oxtail in their dishes. Over time, they combined this with local ingredients like thyme, scallions, and allspice to create the dish we know and love today.
In Jamaica, we cook Oxtail low and slow, till it's tender and falling off the bone. It's typically served with rice and peas, boiled yams, and dumplings. The sauce is thick and savory, bursting with flavor, and is best mopped up with some good old hard dough bread.
Oxtail has been a favorite in Jamaica for centuries, and it's a dish that's enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. It's also an excellent representation of Jamaican culture, as it combines African and Caribbean flavors to create something uniquely Jamaican.
Our oxtail is our most popular dishes at Island Taste! We named it after one of Jamaica's nicknames - Jamrock. Did you know that Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean and the fifth largest Caribbean nation?
One love!
